These terms don't affect your statutory rights as a consumer.
TRADE is a marketplace connecting people buying and selling surplus building materials and tools in Bristol and Bath. We provide the platform and handle payment. We are not a party to the sale — the contract for the goods is between the buyer and the seller. We don't own, inspect, store or transport anything listed.
You must be 18 or over. Sellers must verify before listing: limited companies via Companies House (your name must match a current director or person with significant control), sole traders by uploading proof of trading for manual review, or as a private individual selling occasional surplus.
You're responsible for keeping your login secure and for everything done through your account.
Sellers must describe items accurately, including condition, quantity and dimensions, and use photographs of the actual items. You must have the right to sell what you list, and you must only list items you can lawfully sell.
Prohibited items:
We may remove any listing at any time, and repeat or serious breaches can mean losing your account.
Sellers set the amount they want to receive. Our fee is the greater of 30p or 10% of what the buyer pays — one number, with card processing costs coming out of our share, not the buyer's. The 10% takes over once the buyer's price passes £3.00.
Buy Now: the fee is added on top of the seller's price. A seller asking £5.00 means the buyer pays £5.56; a seller asking £50.00 means the buyer pays £55.56. The seller receives their asking price in full, and the buyer always sees the total before paying.
Offers: the fee comes out of the offer. A £5.00 offer means the buyer pays £5.00 and the seller receives £4.50. A £1.00 offer means the seller receives £0.70. Both parties see this breakdown before accepting. The minimum offer is £0.30.
Free items: sellers may list an item for £0 to give it away. The buyer still pays 30p, which covers card processing and discourages items being claimed and never collected.
All prices are in pounds sterling and include VAT where the seller is VAT registered. Sellers are responsible for their own tax and VAT obligations.
When a buyer pays, we take payment immediately and hold the funds — we do not pass them to the seller straight away. Funds are released when the buyer confirms they've received the goods, or automatically as described below.
Once payment is made:
If nothing happens by the end of the 7 days:
We hold funds as an intermediary. We don't pay interest on held funds.
Refunds are always for the full amount the buyer paid — we don't deduct a cancellation fee. Refunds are issued to the original payment method and typically take 5–10 working days to appear.
You'll be refunded in full if you decline at handover, if no handover is recorded within 7 days, or if another buyer completes payment for the same item first (we refund automatically and tell you).
Once you've confirmed receipt, funds are released to the seller and the sale is complete. Any issue after that is between you and the seller — though you should still tell us, and your statutory rights are unaffected.
Buyers collect in person from the location the seller gives. Sellers must make items available within the 7-day window. Buyers are responsible for transport, loading and any equipment needed.
Risk in the goods passes to the buyer on collection. Neither party should pay outside TRADE — if you do, you lose every protection described in these terms, and we can't help.
We only show the postcode until an order is paid.
Buying and selling here involves meeting in person, often at private addresses. Take sensible precautions: collect in daylight where you can, bring someone with you for large loads, wear appropriate protective equipment, and don't enter anywhere you're not comfortable. We don't vet individuals beyond business verification and we don't supervise collections. See our safety page.
Buyers can review a seller once an order is complete. Reviews must be honest and based on a real transaction. We may remove reviews that are abusive, false, or unrelated to the transaction.
You can report any listing, message or user. You can block another user, which hides their listings from you and stops messages between you both. We review reports and may remove content, withdraw listings, or suspend accounts. We don't tell you the outcome of individual reports.
Don't use TRADE to defraud anyone, arrange payment off-platform, harass others, list prohibited items, misrepresent yourself, scrape the site, or interfere with its operation.
We provide the platform, not the goods. We're not liable for the quality, safety, legality or description of anything listed, nor for anything that happens during collection. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or anything else that can't be excluded by law. Subject to that, our total liability for any order is limited to the fees we earned on it.
You can close your account at any time in Profile. We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms. Where we're legally required to keep transaction records, we retain them — see the privacy policy.
We may update these terms. Material changes will be notified in the app or by email. Continuing to use TRADE means accepting the updated terms.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
